Preparing Indigenous learners for Apprenticeship and Employment

The booklets are designed for learners entering an apprenticeship program or preparing for the workforce. Learners are encouraged to complete a booklet in a career they are interested in or they could try all the booklets to investigate what careers interest them. Every booklet concentrates on math concepts and skills needed in a chosen career.

The OALCF are the guidelines used to establish math concepts and skills at Level 1 and Level 2, as some career paths are more advanced learning of math concepts.

Numeracy at Work: Hair Stylist- Working with Estimation

Facilitator’s Guide

The hairdressing field is a most rewarding career to work in, as you can have a positive impact on clients well-being by providing services that help eliminate stress and can raise self-esteem. This career path is worth the time and effort and is most satisfying when we take care of our people and ourselves.

Learning about estimation is an important math skill for anyone interested in being a hairstylist. It is used on a daily basis to budget, measure and price their hair styles to be cost effective and to run a successful business.
